Presented in the grand setting of the Midland Hotel in Manchester during the annual RCI awards luncheon on November 25th, the Miller Court project took the crown in a very competitive category with four excellent shortlisted entries, due to its elaborate roof, which required strenuous attention to detail and care throughout the construction.
“The competition was fierce this year,” said Fraser Biles, Sales Director at BMI. “We are proud to have made the shortlist with six outstanding entries and are delighted that Russell Roofing and their regeneration of the roof of Miller Court won this prestigious award.”
This prize is even more special to Russell Roofing, who had in fact not put forward an entry into any other awards before.
Frazer Simpson of Russell Roofing explained that “We always assumed that with so many great entries being put forward, competition would be too strong. Even though Miller Court was a fantastic project, we were absolutely surprised to win against such a strong field of competitors. Well done to all shortlisted entries, they were all outstanding.”
Miller Court, an apartment complex in Romford, Essex, is a beautiful residential building, with an extensive 600 square metre roof consisting of eaves, ridges, verges, and valleys. With leadwork no longer meeting regulations and evidence of falling tiles, which endangered the residence of the 13 individual units in the complex, Russell Roofing were contracted to manage the refurbishment of the entire roof.
“BMI Redland are our go-to manufacturer for all our pitched roofing projects,” Frazer Simpson explains of Russell Roofing’s choice to work with BMI Redland. “We are always working with Redland on both the merchant and contracting side because we know the quality of the products is second to none. It is a very tidy relationship – long may it continue.”
The new roof is testimony to true roofing craftsmanship, as Russell Roofing had to take extra care and attention to details throughout the installation due to the complex shape and structure of the roof, not to mention the fact that it was a lived-in complex with residents having to be kept safe at all phases of the refurb.
The Redland Rosemary Clay Classic tile was the perfect choice for the beautiful red-brick Miller Court building, in keeping with the local roofscape, as well as satisfying the requirements of the planning permission.
“We are absolutely delighted to have won the Pitched Roofing Award for Miller Court, and while it may have been our first ever award entry, it surely won’t be the last,” Frazer Simpson says.
